Professional Development
This semester I had many opportunities to explore and learn about my identity. I became a more active member of the Hillel community and joined their Jewish Learning Fellowship. I also attended their Day of Learning to record and write about it. During the Day of Learning, I learned how to define antisemitism and how to identify, respond to, and properly educate others in the face of it. During the day we also worked to deconstruct the American lens of race which was in direct response to a recent episode of ABC's "The View" in which Whoopi Goldberg claimed that the Holocaust was not about race, but instead a conflict between two groups of white people despite antisemitism being at the core of racist ideologies like white supremacy and white nationalism. I also learned about how second-generation holocaust survivors witnessed the wounds transmitted by their parents and the effects of middle eastern geopolitics on antisemitism. I later attended a follow-up to the day of learning called Jewish Space Lasers and Other Thoughts on Antisemitism in Kling Lounge where I learned about the origins of antisemitism and how it has developed over the years to reach where it is today.
